I am raising my cup of eggnog to you (whether there is rum in there or not is your guess) and sending you best wishes for the holidays!
For me and for most people I know, the early weeks of December are action packed as we push to get projects across the finish line.
As we head into the holiday period instead of feeling happy and exited we are more likely to be feeling tired and in need of a major break.
So lets make sure we take it!
Part of the reason December tires so many of us out is not simply due to pressures at work pressures but also because of what we give at home.
- We put effort into giving our loved ones thoughtful greetings and gifts.
- We strive to find the time to connect with family and friends.
- We might find ourselves cooking even more than usual as we prepare big meals and holiday treats.
- We work to get our house in order for the visits from company.
- We focus on making the holidays a great experience for our children, family, and friends.
This morning I said to myself “Allison, time to coach yourself. It is time to hit pause!”
This holiday I am giving myself the gift of the pause.
Precious time for doing whatever strikes my fancy. Or nothing at all.
This holiday my wish for you and for me is that we give ourselves that gift. Time for ourselves!
Maybe you schedule some “you time” for two hours or a half a day.
Or a full day.
Or a weekend.
Or in my case, two full weeks, which is something I have not done in a decade.
Life is a marathon and these small gifts of time we can give ourselves are what keeps us fresh and alert and in motion.
Before you close this newsletter and move onto next things, decide – what is the treat of time you will be giving to yourself over the holidays?
- Commit to it.
- Schedule it.
- Look forward to it.
Sending you my very best wishes for some quality relaxation time over the holidays!
See you in 2018!
