Friday reflection – Savouring the simple things

Written by Allison Wolf

I have a simple practice to recommend to you for this Remembrance Day weekend:  savour the simple beauties, joys, and pleasures.  Notice the magnificence of the small bird resting on a branch outside your window. Observe the delicious taste of your first sip of coffee in the morning.  Remark on the happiness of the child you see playing in the park.

This Saturday is Remembrance Day –  a memorial day observed in Commonwealth of Nations member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.  We can also remember what those brave soldiers gave up – their lives – and take extra care to appreciate the simple joys of our own lives this Remembrance Day weekend.

It is always possible, amid the turmoils of life and the challenge we face, to pause and appreciate the sweetness around us.  If only for a precious moment.
